Trey Anastasio Busted

So, I made a joke in my last post... something about Trey being in an oxy induced haze. Well, It looks like he's more of a Vicodin, Percocet and Xanax person these days.
Mr. Anastasio was busted early yesterday morning in upstate NY (Whitehall) for DUI & being possession of someone else's pharmaceutical medications, specificly the one's listed above. Adding insult to injury, he enters the celebrity mugshot hall of fame.

Thankfully he doesn't look like Nick Nolte.

DECEMBER 15--Former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio was arrested early this morning on a driving while intoxicated rap and New York cops found the musician in possession of a variety of medications prescribed to another person. Anastasio, who is pictured in the below mug shot snapped by the Whitehall Police Department, was nabbed at around 3:30 AM following a traffic stop by Patrolman Andrew Mija. He failed field sobriety tests and was found to be carrying Xanax, Percocet, and Hydrocodone. The 42-year-old Anastasio, whose first name is Ernest, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, DWI-drugs, and driving without a license. Whitehall is located in upstate New York, just miles from Vermont, where Phish was spawned.

I checked out Mr. Anastasio last night in Hollywood & I'm happy to report that he has relocated his mojo. I thought he may have misplaced it during a late night oxy fuled jam session (only kidding guys!). Last time around he was with 70 volt parade which left something to be desired.
He opened up the first set with "Shine" into "Alive Again". Next up was a 70 volt parade tune, "Air Said To Me", which I didn't mind. He closed the first set with Cincinnati (a tune from his new album, BAR 17).

The Black Eyed Pea's werent worth a shit before she joined the group but they certainly jumped the shark the second she showed up. Her face is a bit pitbull-ish, she's absolutely talentless... I wonder if Gwen Stefani is flatterd or annoyed when Fergie bites her style.

Well, i'm still sad about not making it to this years Vegoose. Just the thought of missing out on a huge weekend of music makes me sad. I am happy that Trey's finallly decided to make his was to Los Angeles... although I must admit that i'm kind of bored with the Wiltern. Thankfully he's playing the Ventura Theater the night before. I have an ex who lives in Ventura who I can count on seeing... I'm sure it'll somehow add a small amount of comic relif to my evening.

So aparently String Cheese Incident played a jungle themed show @ their Vegoose night show. Here's the setlist for anyone who's interested.

Spank Rock -yoyoyoyo

(I should probably be discussing something a bit more current, considering this is a brand "spanking" new blog, but I can't get this album out of my ipod... So now I must dissect)

Spank Rock is a group/collective of musicians from Baltimore/Philadelphia area. Signed to the Big Dada label, their full length "yoyoyoyo" was released in April 2006.
It took me at least 3 months to hear of these guys. There was a fair amount of chatter about Spank Rock on various other music blogs. Taste maker critics such as Pitchfork, XLR8R & salon.com have been more than kind to this album. I was finally convinced that I needed to checkit out when I heard their remix of Coldcut's "True Skool".
The first thing I noticed upon first listening was the deep nu-electro (Miami) styled bass and the nasty yet funky lyrics of Backyard Betty (spit by mc Spank Rock a.k.a. Naeem Juwan). Juwan has a smooth voice which is offset by dirty party lyrics, a-la 2 live crew. The beats are experimental yet accessible & may I say funky as hell. Provided by Alex Epton, a.k.a. Armani XXXchange. Epton helps make filthy lyrics into a booty shaking, involuntary action. Other "key players" (according to the Spank Rock myspace bio) are Chris Rockswell, dj, Ronnie Darko (cut creator) and The Love Peace Project & the LP3 (the secret weapon-?-). Also, I'd like to add that Amanda Blank is intimately involved in this album, being Spanks baby-mama must give her a bit a leverage.

ok, enough with the pseudo review, hopefully you can tell I dig the album

Vearing slightly but still on topic, I've heard various negative opinions of Baltimore club music. I've been in agreement with lots (if not most) of the negative criticism which usually centers around poor production value (jumpy levels, tinny sound) and the infatuation with using 8 bars of philly "sound of the 70's style" funk music in almost every sample. Most of this "party music" never makes it past Philly so (i'm assuming) we've ALMOST forgot about this genre. That being said, Spank Rock is a refreshing breeze of cool air in this stagnant musical climate we live.

I could go on and on but i'm bored, and I really want to talk about is Louise Egan Brunstad. You ask "who is Lousie Egan Brunstad"... well she's some 16 year old cunt in Atlanta who tried to commit suicide by slamming her car into on coming traffic, killing the mother of 3 (but of course she lived).

Lets vear slightly back on topic, the Spank Rock boys deserve some props. If I were you i'd buy (or download/steal) their newest album "Yoyoyoyo", you'll thank me.

So I should be doing something productive, considering that I'm sitting at work... but instead I'm starting a blog (which is something entirely new to me) .
I'm going to TRY to keep this blog focused on music although in the interest of keeping it interesting (and pandering for a few web hits) I'll occasionally divert from music and talk about a multitude of random topics... comedy, politics, current events, internet phenomena's (such as Amanda Wenk)... whatever pops into my noggin.
